Some people just don’t learn, do they?
Burnaby RCMP and other law-enforcement agencies are on day four of an inspection blitz of commercial vehicles that has seen inspectors at multiple locations around the city.
One truck driver was caught on Thursday by Burnaby RCMP for having a load that was not properly secured.
Today (Friday), that same driver was pulled over for inspection at a different location by Burnaby RCMP traffic officers – and once again was found with a load that was not properly secured.
The driver received a second ticket and the vehicle was placed “out of service,” according to the RCMP.
Const. Kevin Connolly of the Burnaby RCMP traffic division told me earlier this week that many drivers are just not educated on how a load is supposed to be secured.
“The typical response was that they don’t even think the load is not secured,” he said. “They think the load is heavy enough and that gravity alone is enough to keep it in place. We get lots of arguments from drivers about this.”
But Connolly said it doesn’t matter if the load is heavy because a driver simply taking a hard turn can cause a load to shift, or if there is a rollover, the hazardous material will spill.
“It’s a lack of driver knowledge,” he said. “The driver knowledge with commercial vehicles is not good.”
