Opinion: Someone won rent-a-washed-up-rock-star money in Lotto Max

Sure, Twitter videos aren’t the best gauge for sound quality, but this wasn’t vintage Idol (he actually sounded like he was out of breath during Rebel Yell, which made me sad because I’m a huge Idol fan).

But hey, a dude’s gotta make a living and casinos and outdoor summer fairs are a great way to earn some cash. And people love it. That’s why you see so many artists who haven’t had hits in 30 years still being in demand.

Which brings me to the Lotto Max jackpot. Somebody won $50 million in Friday’s draw and readers of this column will know I’m a huge advocate for using some of those megamillions to have oldies acts play your birthday party or anniversary. (You could also consider renting out some young, up-and-coming acts because I’m sure they could use the money too with the disappearance of many local live music venues.)

Imagine having Idol or ZZ Top or Men at Work in your backyard helping you recapture some of your lost youth. Why spoil all of the money on “taking care of your family” – do something really crazy just for yourself.

That’s what $50 million can do.

Then, once you’ve splurged and cried more, more, more, you can donate some of those millions to important causes.

It’s all about balance.

The jackpot for the next Lotto Max draw on Sept. 3 will be approximately $12 million.
