Opinion: This is what happens when just 1 bus to Burnaby falters

The Metro Vancouver transit system relies on a delicate balance of different services all connected to each other.

This includes buses, SkyTrains, the SeaBus and the West Coast Express. Sometimes, if just one little piece in this system has a hiccup then the rest of it goes haywire.

Case in point, Monday morning on the Burnaby-Coquitlam border. According to a Twitter post by rider Chris Mitchell, the 143 bus from Burquitlam through Burnaby up to Simon Fraser University broke down and threw the system into chaos – leaving riders standing in the rain.

“NO ONE GO TO BURQUITLAM OR YOU WILL GET A PANIC ATTACK. This is half way down the line, and it has now looped almost entirely around the station proper. What happens when one single bus breaks down on the 143 :(“
