Opinion: This reckless trucker got nailed in Burnaby without a proper licence

The past few months have been a rude awakening for me on the subject of truck drivers.

The traffic enforcement unit for the Burnaby RCMP has really tried to crack down on bad truck drivers riding in unsafe vehicles.

One reckless was even caught twice on the same day in Burnaby by the same RCMP officers.

On Wednesday, Burnaby police not only found a trucker driving an unsafe vehicle, but without the proper licence.

“Today at our CMV check one of our officers stopped this truck/trailer with the driver only having a learner's licence, the subsequent inspection found 7 violations, the driver received $523 in VT's and the vehicle was removed from the roadway,” tweeted Burnaby RCMP.

“Over the past two days our Traffic Unit conducted a joint CMV check with outside agencies which saw 63 vehicles inspected, 20 identified as unsafe to continue and removed from the roadway, 57 VT's issued and 29 mechanical defects identified.”

If this driver works for a company, that company needs to be punished for allowing a driver out on the road who shouldn’t be driving alone.

That is one way to get their attention. Or, perhaps, tickets are just the cost of doing business.
