Have you seen the movie Mad Max: Fury Road?

Well, something that felt like a scene from it played out on a Burnaby road recently.

In the movie, a semi-trailer tries to fend off vehicles trying to stop it. In the Burnaby version, it’s the truck that was the aggressor, according to my friend and eyewitness, Bob Kronbauer, who laid it all out in a furious terrifying tweetstorm.

Kronbauer witnessed a hit and run on Highway 1 in Burnaby that started at the Grandview entrance with vehicles heading east.

“I was directly behind a sedan, and a semi-truck to its right swerved into its lane,” Kronbauer said. "’Holy s**t! That was close,’ I said out loud, thinking that the semi didn't see the car and that it was a mistake. It missed it by inches. The vehicles continued at the same speed next to each other, with the semi (which had an empty double bed it was towing) a little bit ahead of the car. It swerved again towards the car. ‘What the f**k?!’ I said, a little louder this time - I swear a lot when speaking to myself. Maybe 30 seconds after the first swerve, the semi swerved for a third time, this time making contact with the car. Luckily, the car didn't crash. Then the semi picked up speed. The car followed it, and I followed them both.”

During thenext couple of kilometres, the car pulled in front of the semi and tried to get it to slow down, Kronbauer said, then eventually went behind it, “seemingly resigned to the fact that it wasn't going to stop. I kept up with the two, and got on the phone with RCMP.”

Kronbauer was told by the RCMP that they were also on the line with the person driving the car and that officers were waiting at the next exit.

The exit was Gaglardi Way, which is about eight kilometres from where the semi originally tried to run the car off the road.

“I'm not sure if (the semi driver) thought they were just going to carry on with their business, but me and the car driver and the RCMP didn't think they should,” Kronbauer said. “When we got to the exit, it was poetry. Two large BC RCMP black SUVs were there on the side of Highway 1. They made chase with lights flashing and pulled over the semi driver. I honked and kept driving. Then, later, RCMP called me and I made a statement.”

Thankfully, nobody was injured in this incident. Just another wild day on the roads of Burnaby.
