Work on the FortisBC project has been a nightmare for commuters who use Broadway as a way to avoid Lougheed Highway in the mornings.

The past while has been a reprieve, as Broadway re-opened to commuters in areas that have been closed during the past few months.

That reprieve is set to end as FortisBC announced Friday that Broadway between Arden and Underhill Avenues is expected to close as of Saturday, July 20.

“This will be to support work testing the new gas line we have installed in the area,” said a news release. “This closure is expected to last about a month.”

The good news, perhaps, is that once this testing is done, Broadway should be back up and running without further disturbances.

  • FortisBC also says all east-west lanes on Lougheed Highway are now open at the Bainbridge Avenue intersection. Construction has progressed north on Bainbridge Avenue, to between Lougheed Highway and Queensbridge Drive with this section of street closed. The Bainbridge Avenue-Lougheed Highway intersection is closed for north-south traffic. Businesses in the area are open.
  • All southbound lanes are now open at the Gaglardi Way-Broadway intersections, as gas line upgrades continue in the area. Work is expected to continue in the northbound lanes until late September, with at least one lane kept open for traffic.
