This maniac was doing twice the speed limit in Burnaby, but got off so easy

Burnaby RCMP caught some maniac auditioning for the next the Fast and the Furious movie. Only I don’t think they’ll be invited into Dom Toretto’s family anytime soon. The numbers behind this traffic violation are infuriating.

Burnaby RCMP caught some maniac auditioning for the next the Fast and the Furious movie.

Only I don’t think they’ll be invited into Dom Toretto’s family anytime soon.

The numbers behind this traffic violation are infuriating. According to a tweet by the Burnaby RCMP detachment, its traffic enforcement branch caught this goof driving 112 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Yep, twice the limit. Guess they were late for a date, but they won’t be able to pick up another date for a few days as the driver had their vehicle impounded for seven days. They also were handed a $368 ticket.

That’s not enough, of course, but this is what is on the books for such an infraction.

More than 100 people responded to the RCMP’s tweet with suitable outrage about how weak this punishment is for this kind of reckless driving.

“Add a zero to the violation and a 6 month suspension,” tweeted one person.

“Fine them $5000, suspend their licence,” said another.

“Money is no object to these self-entitled drivers. They don’t care if they are caught or who they hurt. Remove their right to drive for at least one year and impound their vehicle for a long time. 2 infractions: jail time and lose licence permanently,” said another.
