The City of Burnaby's PSA has some handy information on the election.

The City of Burnaby forward the NOW a video today that it has produced about the Oct. 20 civic election.

I love purple so this made me pretty happy.

I also love it when people get involved and vote. I don’t know if this video will convince anyone to do that, but it’s a worthwhile attempt by the city.

It has some basic information – very basic – so it’s sort of aimed at an audience that perhaps really knows nothing about the election.

It mentions the election date, plus the fact that the election is for mayor, council and school board.

Like I said, pretty basic stuff.

It also mentions advance voting, which is something that hopefully increases voter turnout because it gives people more chances to cast a ballot.

According to a NOW story in late August, “The number of advance voters doubled from the 2011 to 2013 elections. Expecting the trend to continue, the city will have six advance voting locations open on three days before the general election. That’s four more than the two locations it opened during the last vote.”

Advance voting will be open on Oct. 6, 10 and 13 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Brentwood Town Centre
  • Bill Copeland Sports Centre
  • Cameron Recreation Complex
  • Edmonds Community Centre
  • Metropolis at Metrotown
  • Bonsor Recreation Complex

The six locations will also be open for voting on Oct. 20, in addition to 28 other sites around the city. Burnaby Hospital will also serve as a special voting location for patients.
