Burnaby Mountain situation challenging

Dear Editor, It never ceases to amaze me that there are people willing to risk arrest and jail in the name of a cause. It is not an easy decision to make.

Dear Editor,

It never ceases to amaze me that there are people willing to risk arrest and jail in the name of a cause.  It is not an easy decision to make. When it comes to violating a court order, most people find it intimidating to stand face-to-face with a rank of police called out to enforce the order. The mere threat of being hauled off to a jail creates uneasiness or uncertainty. That’s because we are taught from an early age to obey the law, not challenge it.

Nonetheless, the law is undergoing a challenge on Burnaby Mountain. It is not an anti-social act of wrongdoing. Nor is it being done thoughtlessly or without due regard for the consequences. It is being done because laws preserving and protecting the public interest have been turned upside down by an ideologically driven federal government.

By doing so, it has undermined our trust and faith in the rule of law.
