Do you want the good news, or the bad news?
OK, I’ll give you the bad news first - Burnaby rents are still sky high.
The good news? Our rents are still well below Vancouver's, according to national report.
I guess that isn’t really good news – just less hideous news.
The average monthly rental rate in Canada increased another 1.9% in June after going up 4% in May, according to the most recent National Rent Report produced by Rentals.ca and Bullpen Research & Consulting.
Burnaby finished 11th on the list of 33 Canadian cities for average monthly rent for a one-bedroom at $1,566 and eighth for a two-bedroom at $2,326.
Vancouver again has the priciest average monthly rent of the Canadian cities listed for a two-bedroom home at $2,833 and follows only Toronto ($2,266) for a one-bedroom at $1,990.
Three other British Columbia cities were on the higher side of the list for average monthly rent for one- and two-bedroom homes: New Westminster $1,512 and $1,944; Kelowna $1,430 and $1,818 and Victoria $1,406 and $1,774 respectively.
On a provincial level, average month rents in British Columbia have steadily increased from $1,376 in October 2018 to $1,852 in June.
