Dear Editor:
I just read Jacob Zinn's article "Businesses pay majority of taxes" (Burnaby NOW, Oct. 24) and I can't believe the one-sided information he presented and conclusions that he reached. He cites sources, the Fraser Institute in particular, not known for independent comments. We've heard their spokespersons, on all topics and panels, always stating
"right-leaning" opinions.
The percentages cited for residents, 48 per cent and businesses, 52 per cent, seem fair to me. Businesses take many resources from our city and need more to run their enterprises than a citizen who is simply a resident, so what is wrong with this division?
Does the Burnaby NOW have any policy to take some responsibility to fairly report both sides of issues, particularly during this election period? I can only hope so!
Patrice Pratt, Burnaby
