Dear Editor:

Having avidly followed the anti-homophobia circus created by the single-issue party Parent's Voice over many months, I was pleased to read the recent column by editor Pat Tracy (A clever mask for discrimination, Editor's Letter, Burnaby NOW, Nov. 4)

Now Parent's Voice candidate, Helen Ward, is claiming that "the issue is parental empowerment: the need for parents to have a direct political voice to advance parents' and children's interests" (re: Does the editor read minds? In My Opinion, Burnaby NOW, Nov. 11.)

She is desperately attempting to paint her party as inclusive of all people.

Burnaby voters should not be duped by this rhetoric.

Incumbent Burnaby Citizens Association trustees have recently joined 14 other school boards who have developed discrete anti-homophobia policies to protect students and staff. This work is to be celebrated, not threatened.

Having worked in anti-homophobia and transphobia education for 20 years with many school boards, I believe that the incumbent trustees are advancing the rights of every child in society's march towards human rights and modelling the acceptance of everyone.

Voters should honour BCA trustees' efforts at the polls.
