Dear Editor:

Dramatic incidents and reactions to these are often what get our attention and are covered by the media. This past Friday, April 25, I witnessed something many folks in our community may have missed the signifigance of ... the sound of excited children from Windsor Elementary School who were out participating in their 100 Bucket Challenge Neighbourhood Cleanup.

It was their happy voices that drew my attention to them working their way up our cul-de-sac as they were doing their best to put the polish on our neighbourhood.

The remarkable thing is that 10 years ago ours was a neighbourhood with such a level of obvious crime that residents avoided being out and about as most people would normally be.

Area residents working with our city, all levels of government and Burnaby RCMP have led to a remarkable evolution to our neighbourhood becoming a healthy community with residents and visitors enjoying an increasingly vibrant community. It speaks volumes that so many, right down to our elementary school students, are doing their part of building our community and is a strong sign of the continuing positive growth we can look forward to in our community.

We are all a part of positive growth.
