Congratulations, Ktunaxa

Congratulations to the four Ktunaxa First Nations for signing an economic community development and revenue sharing agreement for the Elk Valley coal-producing area of south eastern B.C.

Congratulations to the four Ktunaxa First Nations for signing an economic community development and revenue sharing agreement for the Elk Valley coal-producing area of south eastern B.C. The coal mining section of this agreement brings land usage certainty, along with certainty for mineral exploration, and a new revenue stream that will enhance the well-being of the Ktunaxa communities and citizens.

The forestry section of the agreement is already providing almost $1 million to the Ktunaxa First Nations in 2013/14, and they will be investing their economic returns in ways that support community initiatives and social programs.

This is yet another example of the kind of win-win deals the provincial government is negotiating on our behalf.

I urge everyone to support our government and ensure that we continue this kind of progress after the next provincial election.
