Corrigan's claim leads to laughter

Dear Editor:

Re: Corrigan batting for a fourth term, Burnaby NOW, Nov. 9.

I almost fell off my chair when I read Derek Corrigan's remarks about wanting "positive" people (his own) that he can "work with" on Burnaby council.

This is the mayor who was arrogant and abusive towards Burnaby residents who came as a delegation to council and had the audacity to suggest that Burnaby's tree preservation bylaw was less than perfect.

This is a mayor who regularly chastises and ridicules other regional mayors who do what's best for their cities but don't toe Corrigan's line.

His well-publicized vitriolic attacks against pro-vincial and federal cabinet ministers have made other governments unwilling to work with Burnaby.

The only thing that is clear from Corrigan's behaviour is that he can't stand any form of dissent or criticism.

A mayor should be able to work with people from across the political spectrum. The mayor has a history of negativism and petulance when dealing with other civic and government leaders. He needs a lesson in humility and I sincerely hope that candidates other than his devoted loyalists are elected to Burnaby council this time.
