Don’t blame residents for water shortage

Dear Editor,

I am growing tired of hearing about the water shortage in Metro Vancouver.
As far as I can remember, every year there is a restriction placed on our water usage. Why are the local reporters not investigating and asking our local officials some hard questions?
During the transit plebiscite approximately $2 to $5 million was spent by the Yes side. Why are the officials able to find money for campaigning but not for fixing our infrastructures?
There is a contradiction here. The mayors of the Lower Mainland are redirecting blame by asking neighbors to call in and/shame their neighbours. We, the citizens, are not the problem. Urban planners need to be planning for our citizens and for any variations in weather patterns. I should not be ashamed to use water in the summer. I do not misuse my water consumption. But something is wrong when paid officials blame/shame us for their mismanagement of water.
