Dear Editor:
Re: Flaherty finds deep wells of stupidity, In My Opinion, by Matthew Claxton, Burnaby NOW, June 1.
Always look forward to Mr. Claxton's use of the In My Opinion column to expose his and the mainstream media's hatred of the Conservative Party of Canada.
Despite all his reasoning, Canada is one of the stablest economies of the western democracies, because of the outlook and capabilities of said party and the politics of both Mr. Harper and Mr. Flaherty. It is a common misconception that it was the Liberals who balanced the budget, but the fact is they did it by stealing tens of billions of dollars from EI accumulated funds and using it to cover their trail of malfeasance, financial incompetence and uncontrolled spending.
Truth is, certain persons (which would include Elizabeth May) feel that it is entirely proper to work for approximately 10 weeks and collect for almost a year; year in and year out.
Nor is it a secret that most employers in the immigrant community do not bother to hire natural-born Canadians, because they know they would never put up with the kind of abuse of employment standards perpetrated therein. People who, by their history, are noted for collecting Employment Insurance at regular intervals should be charged higher premiums, just like in the real world!
It has always been my opinion that all work is noble, if only because a man or woman who gets up every day and pays their share into the commonweal is due the respect of his fellow workers. Employment insurance was originally to be used as a bridge between jobs, not an income for the lazy, shiftless and the indolent.
