Dear Editor:
Late last year, my husband became ill and had to spend three weeks in hospital, and when he was discharged he couldn't do too much in our yard or garden. We have a big backyard and vegetable garden.
Frank, who lives in the second house to our right, helped plant our garden (he brought his own tomato plants.)
He would also come over and weed the garden and trim our plants and yard.
Walter (next door) would, when he mowed his lawn, also mow ours.
Jason, to our left, when he mowed his yard, would mow that portion of ours next to his.
Ralph, next to Jason, would mow between the street and sidewalk and clip the edges.
When I first wrote this, it was in hopes that I could nominate these good neighbours for the Burnaby Citizen of the Year award. Unfortunately it did not qualify for the award nominations.
My neighbours are truly good citizens, and I very much appreciated their quiet, steadfast help during our challenging time.
