The 19,000-square-foot lot at the corner of 18th Avenue and Sixth Street represents a viable opportunity for affordable housing in Burnaby.

While it is reported that Minister Rich Coleman and Mayor Derek Corrigan have opposing views on the history and negotiations regarding this site, both have also publicly acknowledged the need for affordable housing in Burnaby.

There are far too many Burnaby people living in extreme poverty, including families and seniors. Most have great difficulty finding an affordable place to live.

The Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness recognizes the need for collaborative efforts and shared responsibility from the city, the province and the federal government to ensure the success for creating and maintaining affordable housing.

The Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness brings considerable expertise in this area and is committed to working with all three levels of government to establish affordable and transitional housing.

The Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness encourages Mayor Corrigan and Minister Coleman to work together to create the housing which is so desperately needed by Burnaby citizens.
