With Thanksgiving approaching, teacher Derek Cockram asked his Grade 4/5 students at 12th Avenue Elementary School to write about what they felt thankful for.
Here are some of their responses:
I am thankful for my mom because she's the best mom in the whole universe. She takes really good care of me. Without her I'd be lonely. I am thankful for my dad because he put me in lots of wonderful sports. Without my dad, I'd be at home doing nothing and not in very good shape. I am thankful for my teacher because my teacher because he helps me learn to become smart. Without him I would not be smart.

I am thankful for the trees because trees help create air. If there were no trees we wouldn't be able to breathe. Trees make paper and oxygen. Something else I am thankful for is the schools. If we didn't have schools we wouldn't know about the important things like math and history. The world is made of math and education. Last but not least, I am thankful for jobs. Jobs help you get money, and without money we couldn't buy food. A job is a big part of life.

I am thankful for my mom. She is awesome. She made me come into this world, and she takes care of me. Without her, I would live a life of loneliness. I am thankful for my home. It gives me shelter and warmth and a quick way to the bathroom. Without it, I would be cold and easily die. I am thankful for my siblings. I have two sisters. They make food and play with me.
If they were not there I would have no one to help me in life except for my mom.

I am thankful for my mom because she gives me food, water, and shelter. I'll be poor, hungry, and lonely without her around helping me for almost everything. I am thankful for going to school because it teaches me things that I don't know. If I didn't go to school, I would be really dumb and no one would want to hire me for a job. I am thankful for my house and where I live because my house protects me from horrible weather and where I live has a good environment. Also if I didn't have a house to live in I would be so cold I'd die.

I am thankful for my mom. She cooks my food and she buys me food. I would be starving without her. I am thankful for my lap top. It's fun to play with because there are fun games on it. Without my lap top I'd be bored. I am thankful for my friends. I like playing with my friends because they're fun to play with. It will be boring if I didn't have friends.

I am thankful for my mom because she cooks delicious cookies. Mmmm. If my mom wasn't here I wouldn't be able to taste her delicious cookies ever again. I am thankful for my dad. He fixed the internet so I can do IXL math. I am thankful for my sister Sarah. She helps me on HARRY POTTER.COM.

I am thankful for my parents. They are wonderful. My dad pays the rent. And my mom takes care of me. Without them I would have no food, shelter, or games .I am thankful for school. School is good for you. The teachers help me learn and make me smart. Without school I wouldn't know anything at all. I am thankful for my house. It protects me from rain and storms. Without my house, I would have rain all over me.

I am thankful for my parents. My parents are good parents. They care a lot. They take care of me and without them my life will be filled with misery and sadness. I am thankful for technology. Technology is awesome because without it the world wouldn't be as evolved. Technology is very important and without it in my life I won't have a future job. I am thankful for fire, water, earth, air, shelter, food, and clothing. These elements made us live. Without them we all are dead.

I am thankful for my family. If I don't have a family I will starve to death. I am thankful for my house. If I have no home I will freeze to death. I am thankful for my school. If I don't learn I will be a dummy. And I am thankful for my parents. They are nice to me. They always take care of me. Without them, I would be all alone and starve. I am thankful for my brother. I can play Yu-Gi-Oh with him. I can only play Yu-Gi-Oh with grade 4/5s if I didn't have my brother, but he sometimes steals my computer when I am using it. I am thankful for my house. I live in a townhouse. My house gives me a shelter. If I didn't have a house, I would be poor and live outside.

I am thankful for the Internet. I like playing flash games and Rolblox and Minecraft. Without it, I would be bored. I go on the computer every night. My computer is awesome. I only had a virus once. I am thankful for school so I could learn. Without it, I would be dumb. I go to a good an awesome school with good friends and they rock. I have about 28 friends. I am thankful for my parents. My mom created me and takes care of me and my dad plays with me we like with the Wii. They are awesome parents and they are beautiful and my dad is handsome.

I am thankful for my parents Jimm and Anj. Jimm is a P.M. and Anj is a casino worker. My parents take care of me and if they weren't there, I would be lonely. I am thankful for video games: Wii, PS3, and DS. Wii is a white video game, PS3 is a black video game and DS is a little video game. They are entertainment and if there were no video games, I would get bored. I am thankful for my brother Brandon. Brandon is my little brother. He plays with me. If I didn't have a brother I wouldn't have somebody to play with.

I am thankful for my mom. She takes care of me. Without her, I wouldn't play soccer. I am thankful for my coach. He taught me more moves. Without my coach, I would not be good at soccer.

I am thankful for my dog. He is brown and he makes me happy. Without him I wouldn't feel as safe as now and I would be lonely. I am thankful for friends. They help with problems. They are always there for me, good or bad. Without them I would be lonely. I am thankful for my family. They're always there for me. Without them I would die lonely, sad and hungry.

I am thankful for the Internet. I learn from it by going on math websites and Google to go to other websites. Without the Internet, people wouldn't be able to study. I am thankful for my blood. My body wouldn't be able to move and work. Without blood I would not be alive I would be dead. I am thankful for my brain. It lets me think It keeps me alive and it lets me remember things. Without it, I would be dead and would not be writing this.

My mom and dad is one thing that I am thankful for because they take care of me and I would be an orphan without them. Books are another thing I'm thankful for because they are very entertaining. To me a world without books is nothing. I am also very thankful for food because it keeps me alive. If I didn't eat then I wouldn't be alive right now typing on the computer right here at school in the computer lab. And so that proves you should be thankful for things in the world.

I am thankful for my family. There is five of us in the family. They keep me company, when I'm scared. And they watch my basketball games. I'm thankful for My Mom. My mom is a wonderful and beautiful woman. My mom would tell me good things to do. If I didn't have my mom I wouldn't have any advice when I need it. I'm thankful for sports like basketball. Basketball keeps me healthy and fit. If there was no basketball I would be very lazy and I wouldn't be fit.

The second thing is shelter because it helps me live better and keeps me warm. Without shelter I would be starving to death or freeze to death. Shelter is wonderful thing and helpful thing. My last thing is school because it provides me with education. At the school there are great teachers and people. Without school I will be unsuccessful and poor when I grow up and I will be an idiot. School is sometimes hard but it's still fun and great.
