Lesson for non-voters

Dear Editor: My congratulations to the Liberal party, but more importantly to the Liberal voters. Approximately 48 per cent of the voters chose not to exercise their rights as Canadian citizens.

Dear Editor:

My congratulations to the Liberal party, but more importantly to the Liberal voters.

Approximately 48 per cent of the voters chose not to exercise their rights as Canadian citizens.

We live in a country with democracy, in a country with freedom of choice, and that includes to vote if we wish to and not to vote if we wish not to, so what's my point?

Now the comments start; "I knew that would happen, that's why I didn't go to vote," "I'm glad I didn't vote, it would have been waste of my time," "my vote wouldn't have made any difference anyway" etc.

That is disturbing in itself, but what's more disturbing it is the fact that in the next four years we will have to put up with all the lamenting, complaints and remarks - mostly from those 48 per cent - about how this government is turning British Columbia into an undesirable place to live.

I truly hope that Christy Clark's government, for our sake, will surprise all of us in a good way.

But if the opposite proves to be the truth?

I'm tempted to say, "we deserve it," but I'm going to go with, "I hope from it we will learn the importance of voting."
