Letter: B.C. faces 'dismal' future as fracking continues

"We have everything we need to make the transition off fossil fuels except the political will."

We have what we need to transition off fossil fuels — except the political will, says this B.C. letter writer.

Editor:

To start off this new year, I would like to alert British Columbians, through this newspaper, to the dismal future that awaits us all as fracking continues in B.C., especially as the provincial government continues to subsidize the fracking industry.

The product of this extraction — "natural gas" — is not natural at all! It is another climate-wrecking fossil fuel that is even more potent in causing climate change, as it emits methane. And after several years of weather-related disasters, no one in their right mind can deny the relationship between all fossil fuel extraction and these disasters.

Every citizen of B.C. must actively lobby their representatives and demand that the provincial government stop all fracking

We have everything we need to make the transition off fossil fuels except the political will.

Penny Oyama, Burnaby
