Letter: Burnaby Lake Run celebrates successful return

Fifth annual run and children’s festival staged in-person event after two years as virtual gathering.

The fifth Burnaby Lake Run & Kids Festival was successfully held Aug. 7 at Burnaby Lake, with 700 bibs sold.
The festival, which returned as a full in-person event after two years of virtual runs, was initiated and organized by LaPower Running Society. The Burnaby Lake Run has established itself as a celebration of healthy lifestyle.
Sponsors this year included Concord Pacific; Burnaby Tourism; Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society; Scotiabank Burnaby; Alexander College; Pink Diamond; Forerunners/Brooks; and Telus.
Opening speakers for the event were Kristy James, CEO, Burnaby Hospital Foundation; Grant Murray, senior vice-president of sales, Concord Pacific; and James Wang, Burnaby city councillor.
Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley was the kids’ festival speaker, and council was also represented by Couns. Joe Keithley and James Wang, along with Burnaby school board trustee Larry Hayes.
