Re: City names restaurant it will run on Burnaby Mountain, NOW News
Food for thought but wouldn’t it have been nice, and a bit more relatable to Burnaby now, if the city of Burnaby had thought more about the new name of the Horizons restaurant?
Perhaps if they had held a contest, or put out requests for suggestions, they would have come up with a name more relative to Burnaby, rather than a Japanese name.
“Mintara” is a beautiful name, but how is it relatable to Burnaby or B.C.’s roots?
My daughter and I just had a discussion about this topic, and both of us thought it would have been more interesting to name the new restaurant using an Indigenous translation for “horizon” or “outlook” or “beautiful view.” The list of suggestions was endless, and more now, considering the current climate.
It would have given a bit of a nod in the direction of our awesome Indigenous lands and people, and would have further gone in the direction of reparations.
