Letter: Dear Emm, about the gender gap

I don’t want 13% less of any pie, especially one that I probably baked as part of my “household” work for you — thank you very much!

Working mom balancing childcare and her job.

The audacity to write such a note in response to the gender pay gap in B.C. [“Story wrong on the gender gap,” published July 28] is implorable.

Please check your stats and sources of information proving the longer hours of such incredibly tough work done by men before declaring that women’s work is any less than.

The truest challenge is that women will read this, roll their eyes and get back to work. Our work is to take the time out of our days to send a very public note about your tone-deafness and educate you to ensure you never write such appalling thoughts ever again.

Our work as women is to continue to educate men about the equality of our work, of our contribution and the reality that because we can hold so many roles in life (like: parent, founder, CEO, cook, housekeeper, etc) does not make us any less.

I don’t want 13% less of any pie, especially one that I probably baked as part of my “household” work for you — thank you very much!

Love,

A raging humanist who stands for all genders earning fair money.
