A train departs from Purwosari railway station in Surakarta, Indonesia. This letter writer says high-speed rail is the future and trains should be used along Highway 1.

The Editor:

I am writing in response to the Highway 1 Corridor improvement project.

I am in total agreement with the writer who wrote about the need to build a train system alongside Highway 1 rather than adding additional lanes to vehicle traffic, which is no longer an efficient solution of moving people.

City streets continue to become congested with vehicles, let alone bottlenecks of all the highway exit lanes. The latest bullet train development in Indonesia proves to us that high-speed train is the future; efficient both in energy consumption and density and speed of moving people.

U.S.A. fails to recognize this, and we should not continue to follow them. They have not had any major infrastructure development for at least a decade. We need to advance ours and spend our money where it’s needed.
