Letter: I fell while hiking North Van’s Dog Mountain and these Samaritans helped me out

Dear Editor:

I fell into a ditch while microspiking on an extremely narrow path, with a friend, after leaving the top of Dog Mountain in Mount Seymour Provincial Park.

A Good Samaritan gave me some rope to put around me, with other people helping by pulling the rope behind him. I didn't feel comfortable climbing up the ditch, with the rope tightening up.

He asked another hiker to help out.

The second Good Samaritan was able to pull me out of the ditch, after grabbing my hands, with the help of two women hikers who had come upon us and who held his legs.

My thanks to all of you for your kindness (and for a happy ending at Dog Mountain) and a word of advice for other hikers: clear the snow off your microspikes!
