I wish people who were house rich compared to the rest of us realized how humiliating their actions were.
I lived in a basement suite in the Edmonds area and all of these old boomers just had no respect for renters or the plight we faced in affording housing.
They paid so little for their houses compared to what young people have to pay today but still act like it was all about their hard work and sacrifice.
My landlord had this same attitude and nitpicked about everything, especially when it came to parking.
Despite what I believe to be a requirement to provide on-site parking, my landlord took up all of the space with his boat, two vehicles and a bunch of junk in the back. That forced me to park on the street, which would be fine if all of these house owners didn’t constantly hassle me if I parked in front of their houses.
Like my landlord did. Yes, despite knowing my situation and not accommodating it, my landlord would get all agitated if I parked in front of our house. He would tell me I needed to keep the space free in case his kids or friends dropped by. The message was that they were more important than me despite me paying for his comfy lifestyle.
I urge landlords to do more to make the lives of their tenants better. You can start with parking spaces.
