I’m a renter here in Burnaby who regularly gets hassled and harassed for parking on a public street if it’s in front of certain people’s houses.
I’ve been yelled at, given the middle finger and had some threatening notes left on my windshield just because I parked on a public street.
The notes say things like “DON’T PARK IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE OR I’LL HAVE YOU TOWED” in all capital letters.
They are aggressive and unsettling. They are also inaccurate because you can’t have me towed just for parking on the street as long as it doesn’t violate the time limits.
I finally got fed up enough to turn the tables on these entitled homeowners, some of whom don’t park in their garages because they are so filled with junk they can’t fill it with a vehicle.
Some of these homeowners park in front of their own houses, despite having ample space on their properties. This takes up room that renters need because we often aren’t allowed to park on the properties where we rent despite, I believe, a legal requirement.
And so I started leaving nasty notes on their windshields telling them to move or they would be towed away. I used capital letters and lots of exclamation marks. I wanted them to feel the way I feel when I receive one of these when I’m just trying to live my life in peace.
