Letter: I’m leaving Burnaby’s Metrotown after getting groped by a dirty man

Does this area need more cops walking a beat?

That’s it, I have had enough of Metrotown.

As much as I like the convenience of the mall and the many restaurants, I just don’t feel safe in this neighbourhood anymore.

The place is filled with people who are either mentally ill or they are high on drugs. People wander down the street mumbling to themselves. Some even follow me and talk away.

I’m not unsympathetic. It’s really quite sad and we need someone in government to step up and offering better services to help these people with their problems because it makes life difficult for all of us.

I’m an Asian woman who has had to endure racist comments from people on the street if I ignore their comments. That just seems to make them angrier.

When I go to the SkyTrain station or come from it there are often big crowds during rush hour. That’s when some men bump into you on purpose and then act like it was an accident. One dirty man actually groped my bottom and this was the final moment for me.

No amount of convenience is worth not feeling safe. Hopefully someone in charge sees this and takes action.
