Letter: MLA's constituents deserve better

Janet Routledge's Holocaust comparison was only the latest example of Burnaby North MLA's poor performance in the legislature, reader says.

Burnaby North would be better served by a new MLA, a former Burnaby council candidate says.

Editor:

Recently, Burnaby North MLA Janet Routledge made a speech in the legislature equating the public's accusations of incompetence against the BC NDP government to the Holocaust. This comes on the heels of similar comments in 2022 where the Burnaby North MLA equated a trivial matter to that of the Holocaust.

These comments and comparisons are completely uncalled for and insulting to people of the Jewish faith as well as all residents of the riding she is supposed to represent proudly.

The Burnaby North MLA is doing an extremely poor job representing this community while also providing very little value for her constituents. Our schools are overflowing with no plans to build additional educational facilities in the near future, and our residents are being pushed to the brink with sky-high real estate prices and rent payments. Affordable childcare spaces are still not available for the majority of North Burnaby residents, bringing these families even closer to the brink of financial insolvency.

I demand the immediate resignation of Janet Routledge so the voters of Burnaby North can have the opportunity to elect a representative that will properly advocate for this riding and represent it proudly.
