I know that when people hear what street I live on that they will dismiss me by saying, “well, what did you expect.”
I live on Hastings in Burnaby Heights and, yes, I moved there expecting to hear some traffic. That regular daily driving noise I can handle. It comes with the territory.
But there is a hair-raising situation going on late at night that nobody seems to be taking seriously. Hastings has become a drag strip on many nights with drivers spilling out of the late-night hookah lounges, getting into their souped-up cars and going joyriding at high speeds. They spin their tires out and race each other and it wakes me up.
I’m tired of it. I work on Sundays and it’s rough because it’s hard to get back to sleep after being woken up and feeling angry.
I’m angry because the city and the police don’t seem to want to do anything about it. I’ve called and can’t get any kind of commitment. I mean it’s obvious when it happens because, like I said, it’s after the lounges close. We’ve seen violence outside some of these lounges before. They should have cops stationed there when it’s closing time.
Just be visible.
It’s not just noisy, it’s dangerous and needs to be shut down.
