Letter: Proposed B.C. strata changes are a 'stupid distraction'

Does the government have the right to change the constitutions and bylaws of private buildings and elected strata boards? This letter writer thinks not.

Whose decision should it be whether to allow rentals in strata buildings? This letter writer doesn't think the government should be overruling strata councils.

Editor:

I can't believe this latest profoundly dumb idea that the NDP has come up regarding stratas.

Ownership was a prize I worked hard for all my working life, and now I'm being forced to feel guilty for living in an "owners-only building " because the provincial government has not done their job in supporting and planning for the growing population.

Privately owned condo buildings are a choice people make because they want to live in that type of building. They are not taking housing away from anyone! Do the math.

Does the government have the right to change the constitutions and bylaws of private buildings and elected strata boards by pulling a NDP power play?

This is a stupid distraction because they don't know how to build or manage social housing. They are want to shift the spotlight to those of us who are lucky enough not to have to rent to make us out like some elitists' group that denies renters.

Just wait for the class-action lawsuits, because it can't be legal that this government can dictate how privately owned buildings are managed.
But if it comes to that, let's just tie everything up in court for the next four years.

Next they will expropriate smaller, privately owned condos so they can build tall highrises.

The power grab the NDP is trying to impose on us is very scary for many reasons.
