Letter: Quit mowing lawns and let the dandelions thrive, Burnaby

Is it time for the City of Burnaby to practice "No Mow May"?

Don't mow the dandelions — let them thrive so pollinators can feed. That's this resident's plea to the City of Burnaby.

Editor:

I was very disappointed to see Keswick Park lawnmowers out in full force already.

Dandelions are one of the bees', butterflies' and other pollinator insects' first source of food after the winter. “No Mow May” is common practice in other countries. Wild pollinators are crucial to human survival, and they are at risk.

Can Burnaby at the minimum practise staggered cutting to allow portions of parks to grow dandelions and clover during May?
