Re: Trans Mountain tanks not built to withstand ‘sloshing’ oil during earthquake: engineer, NOW, April 30
(Federal NDP candidate for Burnaby North-Seymour Svend) Robinson is looking for issues for the upcoming federal election and Trans Mountain is a prime whipping post for discussion.
Earthquakes are definitely a way to get the attention and sometimes fear from the public.
Burnaby Mountain is the result of glacial till, carving out Burrard Inlet. Robinson’s focus here should be on the thousands of residents at SFU that are at risk from a potential collapse of Burnaby Mountain into Burrard Inlet.
(Metro Vancouver) has experienced several earthquakes and hurricanes over 75 years and survived.
There is no doubt that physical risk assessments must be in place to deal with catastrophic events.
Looking back in time, why did our politicians allow for population development around an industrial site, which would have a potential increase the risk to people? Where were the politicians?
Burnaby is long overdue for an integrated emergency response team (ambulance, fire, and police) to service SFU and the immediate area. Add to this an increased hospital presence.
