Letter: Someone thought I was in the ‘freedom convoy’ so they vandalized my Burnaby truck

Editor:

My truck has had a Canadian flag on it for a couple of years. It’s not a big one. It’s small and is taped to the back window of the pickup.

I always thought it was just a nice symbol of Canadian pride but recently it made me a target for vandals.

I walked to my truck in my driveway to head to work and found it had been keyed with the word “f***” and one of the tires had been punctured.

I am convinced because someone thinks I’ve been part of these “freedom convoy” events that have been going on across the country. I see these trucks driving around with huge Canadian (and Trump) flags and so they’ve been associated with the movement.

I don’t support these protests. I’ve been vaccinated and accept the mandates, even if I don’t like them. So please, don’t target people just for having a flag on the back of it. Don’t target anyone. We’re supposed to be respectful and tolerant of other views. Attacks like this won’t help.
