Letter: Stratas should be controlled by owners who live there

"The people who live here bought a home. They did not buy a money-earning investment."

Who has the right to control what's done with strata properties? The owners, not the premier, says this letter writer.

Editor:

David Eby has no right to remove control of our strata from the people who live here. We had allowed for up to three rentals out of 16 units but have decided over the years (21-year-old strata) to remove them. Almost all the problems we had were due to renters.

The people who live here bought a home. They did not buy a money-earning investment. We have a council that looks after most of our issues. Are any renters going to help with that? Some of us take it upon ourselves to look after minor maintenance issues. Are any renters going to help with that?

We know all the people in here. We are not all friends, but we respect each other as fellow owners. We do not want an ever-changing string of renters, strangers for the most part, to be streaming through our strata.
