Re: This Burnaby restaurant was empty. They still sat next to me, NOW Opinion
I found your opinion piece interesting, but not only from your perspective but from your interpretation of what the issue was.
Yes, they probably should’ve sat somewhere else given their options.
I suspect that the table spacing was probably appropriate or, if not, your issue should be with Pho 99 and not these two gentlemen.
The fact that they weren’t wearing a mask is irrelevant. They’re not required to and why would they wear one in a restaurant? Not sure why that was entered into your argument.
Plus the gentleman closest to you had their back to you. Again, not the best table selection but maybe your issue should be raised with the restaurant or take a measuring tape with you next time.
You’re clearly cautious and perhaps you’re not ready to reintegrate. What about your dining partner? Did you temperature check them? Or check their oxygen level?
Either you’re ready emotionally to resume life under different conditions and weighed risks or you’re not. It’s your choice. But there are better examples of poor decisions being made than the one you outlined. It was weak and not very interesting. It said more about you than them.
Don Delayen, Burnaby
Editor's note: Several readers have remarked about the table setup and it is not ideal. Other restaurants I have visited recently have been space well apart. Also, the Pho 99 staff were not wearing masks either, unlike the other restaurants I have frequented.
