Dear Editor
Congratulations to BC NDP Leader, John Horgan, and the NDP Opposition for coming up with a viable alternative to the Site C dam. “PowerBC” is a plan that answers environmental concerns, avoids First Nations court challenges, and promises to create a wide range of good jobs for generations to come. Rather than build a $9 billion dam, the approach suggested by Horgan – upgrading existing dams, generating stations, transmission lines and investing in new energy sources – is a much more realistic solution to the provinces future energy needs.
But is the B.C. Liberal government about to buy into such a forward thinking plan? As evidenced by the knee-jerk reaction of Energy Minister Bill Bennet, the B.C. Liberal government is stuck in the 1950s with its megaproject mentality.
