LETTERS: Tree cutting is necessary in an urban environment

Dear Editor: Sad as it can be to watch any tree being cut down, sometimes it has to happen. This is true of any urban area – even Burnaby, with its wealth of healthy, large older trees providing shade and quiet passageways for area residents.

Dear Editor:

Sad as it can be to watch any tree being cut down, sometimes it has to happen. This is true of any urban area – even Burnaby, with its wealth of healthy, large older trees providing shade and quiet passageways for area residents. However, this is an urban environment and growth and change is inevitable.

My heart goes out to residents of Forest Grove who are losing some trees, but their wrath is misplaced. Unfortunately for them, knowingly or not, they live near and along a utility corridor with both gas and oil pipelines beneath their feet. Instead of attacking Fortis B.C., work with them. Planting trees back where they once grew is not an option, but having Fortis fund the planting of trees in an appropriate nearby area is an acheivable goal.

Instead of attacking Fortis B.C., I urge that the upset residents of Forest Grove take a positive approach.
