Dear Editor:
Some time ago I read an old Portuguese proverb originating in the province of Alentejo. The change (mine) in the quote is the protagonist – and follows:
“You know, I met a very sad oil pipeline protester the other day, and he told me he had been on the verge of teaching his family to live without food – but they died.”
Profoundly relevant.
