LETTERS: We need the province to stop the pipeline

Dear Editor

With the federal government’s approval of the Kinder Morgan pipeline, it has never been more important to have a premier and a government that will stand up for B.C. and defend our coast.

This issue is of critical importance to the safety of local residents in Burnaby. The number of oil tankers in our community will increase from five to 34 per month, approximately one million barrels per day, which is an increased environmental risk that will have a major impact on our schools, businesses and wildlife.

Since the announcement, many of my neighbours in Burnaby have shared with me their disappointment to see our Premier Christy Clark simply hand over British Columbian’s say to the federal government’s flawed process.  As a candidate in the upcoming election, I’ll be fighting alongside B.C. NDP leader John Horgan to stop the expansion.

This is a crucial time for us to work together to make it clear that we need a government that will put local residents’ needs and best interests first.
