More to Islam than was reported

Dear Editor: Re: Reporter reflects on Ramadan. Burnaby NOW, Aug. 14.

I'd like to see an article not extolling the virtues of Islam but rather the truth about Islam and how religious minorities are treated in Islamic countries, even Islamic minorities such as Sunnis in Shiite Iran and Shiites in Sunni countries.

How about all the Sufis in Libya who had their mosques and cemeteries bulldozed? Much less Christians in even the most advanced Islamic countries such as Turkey, where it is basically illegal to build a church or display a cross, or Egypt where Christians are relegated to being garbage pickers and are not allowed to rebuild churches. And we know the 30 or so destroyed yesterday in Cairo will not be repaired.

But let's not talk about Islamic countries - how about London where in Muslim areas it is not safe for non-Muslims to go, or other places in Europe where they want Sharia law enacted ... for everyone? How about Muslim-owned businesses here in Canada that refuse to hire non-Muslims? I know this for a fact.

How about how it is a crime in Islam to kill an innocent person, but the rub is that in order to be "innocent" one must be Muslim?
