North Burnaby finally gets some Persian food with two new eateries

When I moved back to my hometown of North Burnaby a few years ago, it was pretty frustrating to not have close access to Persian food. I mean, Burnaby has a kazillion sush bars (which does make me happy), but I need me some Persian herbs and spices.

When I moved back to my hometown of North Burnaby a few years ago, it was pretty frustrating to not have close access to Persian food. I mean, Burnaby has a kazillion sush bars (which does make me happy), but I need me some Persian herbs and spices.

I was introduced to this cuisine about 15 years ago by my former landlady who was from Iran.

Her summer parties were the highlight of the year because of all the amazing food.

Many of the best Persian restaurants are located in North Vancouver, which has a large Persian population.

But Burnaby has been pretty much a Persian food desert.

Until now.

I was strolling through Lougheed mall the other day fighting all of the other Christmas shoppers and discovered the Cazba Persian Grill had opened up.

It’s in the food court and it’s pretty good. For me, Persian food is all about that fragrant saffron rice, following by the grilled meats made with fresh herbs. Going to a food court and getting something that isn’t fast food is a welcome addition.

The Burnaby outlet is part of a company of restaurants that include locations in Coquitlam, North Vancouver and Vancouver. Cazba is no slouch - it's won numerous readers' choice awards for its outlets.

According to the company’s Facebook page, plans are also in the works for a location in the Amazing Brentwood expansion.

I’m ready to rock the Cazba.
