Dear Editor:

I am a citizen of Burnaby and have been for the past seven years. My five year old daughter attends a school in this district. When Burnaby school district's policy 5.45 was brought about, I became a proud citizen of Burnaby. I am pleased that my daughter attends a school in a community that embraces and protects children and their teachers of all races, nationalities, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities. How do I tell her that there is a group that wants to allow her friends and leaders to be bullied because they might be different from her?

Parents' Voice's false platform disgusts me. Had I not been following its opposition to this policy from the beginning, I might believe that the group's platform might actually include "elimination of excess spending" or "educational excellence". However, Parents Voice has already shown, to anyone who is paying attention, that they are not up front about why they are running, and this is very disturbing to me.

The party has a one-plank platform and that is elimination of this policy. The group has missed the whole point of the policy to begin with. It doesn't matter whether or not you believe homosexuality is morally wrong. Bullying is morally wrong. Of any person. For any reason. That is the point. This is not a religious issue.

In light of the recent death threats received by people opposed to Parents Voice's beliefs, I have declined including my last name in this correspondence. I'm sure you'll understand.
