A week after a Ferrari driver had their ride towed for excessive speeding in Burnaby, local RCMP impounded five vehicles for doing the same thing.
Basically, being maniacs on our local roads.
Burnaby RCMP Traffic Enforcement officers said in a tweet that they impounded 5 vehicles in 4 days for excessive speeding.
The average speed of these 5 drivers was nearly double the legal limit, police said.
“With nicer weather (hopefully) around the corner, we are asking drivers to slow down & follow the laws,” said a tweet.
All 5 drivers received a $368 ticket and a 7-day impoundment.
Here are the gory details:
- 107 km/hr in a 60 km zone
- 112 km/hr in a 60 km zone
- 96 km/hr in a 50 km zone
- 116 km/hr in a 50 km zone
- 116 km/hr in a 60 km zone
According to Burnaby RCMP, 81 people are killed in speed-related crashes every year in B.C.
Earlier this week Burnaby RCMP also partnered with New Westminster police and the City of Burnaby to target commercial truck drivers at 10th Avenue on the border of the two cities.
On one day, they stopped 29 trucks and found 21 to be unsafe to be on local roads so they were towed away and 78 tickets were issued.
For one truck with a trailer, officers found it to be 5,300 kg overweight with no annual inspection on the trailer, cargo not secured and the trailer’s breakaway device not functioning. Four tickets were issued.
