I’m not too popular in my Burnaby neighbourhood, which is loaded with renters – mostly living in illegal suites.
I’ve reported several of the owners for operating illegal suites and so my neighbours get mad at me for “snitching” them out but if you want to rent out your home, you damn well better get registered with the City of Burnaby.
With all of these illegal suites come a parade of renters who have messed our quiet neighbourhood with their partying and them hogging up all of the street parking.
I like to have friends and family over but they can never find anywhere to park, especially in the evenings and on weekends because of all of the renters taking up the spaces.
I have had to leave nasty notes on the windshields of people parking right in front of my house because my elderly parents can’t park. Do renters enjoy making life miserable for seniors who have to walk a long way away from the house? Because that’s what’s happening.
I only have a small garage for my car and so I rely on street parking for anyone who visits me. It’s unfair that renters who don’t pay any property taxes can use up such a finite resources.
I’m just being honest. I pay my fair share and deserve to get first choice on this issue. And so I watch if people park for too long on the street and then call to get them ticketed or towed.
I’m sick of having to be polite about this. And where are the landlord’s in all of this? If you rent out some or all of your home, provide some damn parking so the rest of us aren’t punished.
