Dear Editor:
Re: Refugee health-care cuts OK, Letters to the editor, Burnaby NOW, June 27.
I'm a pensioner who has paid into health care since I was 16 and am now 61 and now have to pay $64 a month for my health care.
I don't like this one bit because, after all, I did pay into it for 45 years, but I do understand the government's predicament.
And, like Mr. Kravechenko, I agree this is a good place to start with cutbacks.
One thing I don't understand is how an immigrant over 65 can come to our province and automatically collect Old Age Pension without having put a dime towards it, while others like myself have paid into OAP for eons.
Hmm, maybe if the government stopped this highly unfair policy of "giving out" our Canadian pensions, maybe our economy might stand a chance plus our over population wouldn't be as bad as it is now.
