Renters are part of the property tax equation

Dear Editor: Chiyo Bustin (Letters to the editor, July 29) is wrong in stating that only property owners pay property taxes, when the reality is that every renter also pays property taxes when they pay their rent every month.

Dear Editor:

Chiyo Bustin (Letters to the editor, July 29) is wrong in stating that only property owners pay property taxes, when the reality is that every renter also pays property taxes when they pay their rent every month.

Does Chiyo not consider the fact that the very make-up of the rent payment to the landlord is made up partly to recoup what the landlords are paying out in property taxes every year, and every time property taxes are increased the rent goes up for the renters as well? Landlords  are using their property, or properties, to assist them in making a living, so any increase in property taxes or renovation costs, gets passed on to their tenants. So the truth is renters pay property taxes as well, but the assessment goes to the property owners.
