Re: NDP gov't would cost us, Letters to the Editor, Burnaby NOW, Feb. 22.
Letter writer Shane Perich states that the NDP favours unions over people.
I would remind Mr. Perich that unions consist of people, working people, all people, nothing else, lots of them.
Most people who earn a decent wage tend to spend more, thereby supporting business.
Most of my working life I belonged to a union. I began my trade at a union sponsored trade school. I earned a living wage, enough so that my wife was able to stay at home and care for our children who I am proud to say have turned out to be well-educated, solid citizens.
Belonging to a union, if there was a problem at work, I had a voice.
There's an old labour song that goes, "you've had your pay, be on your way, you no good useless bastard."
This is what will happen to most nonunionized workers when they are too old to cut it. They are the "associates" that you see at big box stores, who look like they are too old to be working.
Now that I am too old, my union provides me with a pension.
Long live the NDP. Long live the unions.
